The Importance of Showing Affection in our Lives. Part 2

Take Advantage of Showing Affection Today

Take advantage of showing affection today and every day. The importance of affection means taking advantage of being more affectionate towards the people in your life. This will not only make someone else feel good, but it will also make you feel better too. Consequently, every time I reach out to show affection to another, I always seem to receive the same measure in return. Sometimes even more.

We all Need to be Shown Affection

We not only need to show affection, “we” also all need to be shown affection. From the new born babies, children, teens, adults and the elderly. Everyone seems to perform better in the world if we have people who are affectionate towards us. Children who are given a healthy dose of affection by their parents and siblings benefit greatly. Studies have shown that they gradually grow up to form more successful, lasting relationships. They also  have a better chance of becoming emotionally healthy individuals.
Affection helps children to grow up to have a healthy self-esteem. It builds up their resilience  and makes them stronger to face life’s difficulties and challenges. Human touch is known to enhance brain development and physical growth in children. Therefore, their lives are generally more successful in all other areas.
Showing affection in a tender loving atmosphere sends a message to those we love. I personally feel genuinely cared for, worth while, and wanted. It also builds up trust and helps me bond with others.

The Hug may Send an Inappropriate Message

Showing signs of affection through an embrace can also make or break a relationship. For example, I have been friends with someone for almost 15 years and never found a reason not to care deeply for this person. About 2 years ago this same person hauled me into a hug that felt uncomfortable and not in line with genuine love. Therefore, I have no real desire to see this person again. The relationship has changed over an inappropriate hug.
As people get a bit older it is a good idea to ask permission before reaching out and hugging and/or kissing someone. Some people are not comfortable with outward showing of affection, so be considerate. Also ask permission from a parent before you reach out to hug and/or kiss a young child. Of course if this is family or loved ones it is easier to gauge the situation. Just be thoughtful and sincere when showing affection and make sure the message you send is genuine love.

Simple Ways of Showing Affection

Holding hands.
Cuddling.
Tenderly touching our loved ones in a non threatening way.
Kissing.
Snuggling.
Hugging.
Rocking.
Talking gently.
Saying “I love you” often.

How to Show Affection to a Significant Other in a Non-Sexual Manner

There are times when we love to be shown affection in a non-sexual manner, just because it also feels good. Therefore, when we show  those little signs they also help the sexual union to become enhanced. I have learned that being affectionate with my partner helps us to gain a deeper level of intimacy.

We show signs of affection by;

Touching affectionately often in the course of the day.
Holding and kissing before going out the door.
Greeting one another warmly with a kiss and hug when we get home.
Asking sincerely about each others day.
Listening with interest when someone is sharing.
Letting each other know how much they are missed when they are not around.
Snuggle on the sofa while watching a movie or just talking.
When we travel we often hold hands.
We often hold hands and hug while watching movies.
