Why Honesty is Crucial to Your Character: Part 1

Why Honesty is Crucial to Your Character

Honesty is crucial to your character. This is because you want people to know you as someone who can be depended upon and to be trusted. It is an aspect of your character you want to nurture and build upon.

People will see you as being sincere and genuine. They will also see you as being responsible and someone they can depend on.

Honesty is defined as, being truthful, trustworthy, sincere, fair, honorable, genuine and loyal.

Being Honest With Yourself

Being honest with yourself means being honest about your feelings and about your actions. Therefore saving yourself  a whole lot of trouble in the long run. It forces you to face issues as they arise. This means you have to be honest about how you feel about the things you encounter day to day. It is true even if it just concerns you. You will learn to be real when you take responsibility for your feelings and your actions. Your self worth gets built up. And it will help you to be honest with other people as well.

Being Honest With Others

Being honest with others means telling the truth, and keeping your word when you make a promise. Also, if you break a promise, being honest about why you did so.

Means admitting to yourself and to others when you make a mistake, especially when it affects other people. When someone shares a confidence, you keep it to yourself. You don’t tell lies about your friends or other people. And you don’t steal from them or borrow something without asking first.

Being honest means that you do not blame others when you get into trouble. Especially if you went along with something they decided to do. It’s your action and therefore your responsibility for the consequences of those actions.

  1. I think this is pretty good.
I have striven to find ways to insert a little witticism or sagacity of my own, but it just doesn't seem to have any unfinished chinks wherein I could place them.

    Thanks.
And thanks to PEI, as well.
I have never made it to PEI – even with the bridge – so it remains a land of Colleen Dewhurst (Marilla) and Richard Farsnworth (Matthew) to me…and I strongly resist changing it in my imagination. Your blog is a good update for my image of it, however.

  2. Thank you Montag, I appreciate your comments and I do hope you can make it to PEI sometime; I am looking forward to a trip in May. It should be beautiful there at that time, maybe pick a few may flowers.

    Have an amazing day!
